Sound and Vision project

Thanks to National Lottery players, we have received initial support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to start developing our new Sound and Vision galleries.

About Sound and Vision

Sound and Vision is a £6 million project to build two significant new galleries at the museum. The galleries, accompanied by a programme of activities, will showcase key objects and stories from our world-class collections of photography, film, television, animation, videogames and sound technologies.

Bradford is one of the UK’s youngest, most diverse and fastest-growing cities. As part of the Sound and Vision project, we’ll work in close consultation with local communities to make the museum the cultural cornerstone of many key projects in and around the city, including Bradford’s bid to be the City of Culture in 2025, the city’s culture strategy Culture is Our Plan, and the commitment to building a digital economy.

The galleries will open in winter 2024.

About the funding

In October 2021, we announced that we have received initial support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to begin the development of Sound and Vision.

National Lottery Heritage Fund grant applications over £250,000 are assessed in two rounds. Sound and Vision has been granted round one development funding of £318,963 by The National Lottery Heritage Fund. We are putting together a detailed proposal describing our plans for the project, which will then be considered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund at second round, where a final decision will be made on the full funding award of £3,084,753.

For full details of the funding announcement, read our press release.
