Make new friends, work with an amazing collection and gain new skills. Come volunteer with us and you'll help make a real difference.
It’s the skills, knowledge and passion of our volunteers that helps to make our museum special. With exciting roles across the museum, our volunteers have an opportunity to make a positive impact on our visitors and enhance our understanding of the collection.
What we do
Families are at the heart of our museum. Our volunteers help bring their visit to life by giving them an experience they’ll never forget.
In the UK, 11.6 million people are over the age of 65, 3.5 million people aged 65+ live alone, and 850,000 people are affected by dementia. By igniting memories of the past at our free reminiscence sessions, our volunteers help us make a real difference to the lives of our older visitors.
Silver Screen volunteers
Everyone loves going to the movies—the only thing better is talking about it afterwards. At our weekly film club, our passionate volunteers help bring the silver screen to life for local film fans through fun discussion and analysis.
The National Science and Media Museum is home to one of the most important sound and vision collections in the world. Our knowledgeable and passionate volunteers help us understand its rich narrative through cataloguing and research.
Memory Maker, Reminiscence Sessions
As a volunteer Memory Maker, you'll help support the development and delivery of our Reminiscence Sessions for over-55s. If you’re passionate about museums, enjoy working with older people and want to gain a greater understanding of our collection, this could be the role for you.
This role involves 3 hours of volunteering on the last Wednesday of each month, plus a half-day of admin each month. Read the full role description for more information.
The closing date for applications is Monday 5 June 2017.
