A Bigger Splash (15)

Luca Guadagnino’s sensuous psychological drama, inspired by the art of David Hockney and chosen by our Come and Meet Another Me volunteer programming project.

This 2015 film from Luca Guadagnino, based on Jacques Deray’s La Piscine, depicts the retreat of a high-profile couple—a famous rock star (Tilda Swinton) and a film-maker (Matthias Schoenaerts)—recovering on the idyllic, sun-drenched and remote Italian island of Pantelleria. As their sanctuary is disrupted by the unexpected visit of an old friend (Ralph Fiennes) and his daughter (Dakota Johnson), what follows is a whirlwind of jealousy, passion and danger for everyone involved.

  • DIRECTOR: Luca Guadagnino
  • CAST: Tilda Swinton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ralph Fiennes, Dakota Johnson, Lily McMenamy

Cinematic wonders of the city

This screening is part of a series of volunteer-programmed events by our Come and Meet Another Me programming group—local cinema lovers screening film they want Bradford to see. This film was chosen as part of a series using film to represent the ‘wonders of Bradford’ as a district. Read more about the project on our blog.

A Bigger Splash—inspired by the David Hockney painting of the same name—has been chosen to celebrate the cinematic wonder of Hockney and the unique connection that Bradford has with the artist.

Born on Steadman Terrace in BD3, Hockney represented the district through many of his works before creating this iconic modern art masterpiece. Like the painting, Guadagnino’s film lounges by the poolside and carries the same sense of escapism and isolation through luxury; it is a fantastic way to commemorate one of the world’s greatest living artists.
