A visceral new production exploring the deepest subconscious of one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragic heroes.
Hamlet’s father is dead. His mother has remarried a man he loathes. He is alone with his thoughts. Then, all of a sudden, he speaks. Haunted by grief, and with his world spinning out of control, Hamlet has to make some decisions: forget or remember, live or die.
Rising star Billy Howle (The Serpent, On Chesil Beach) returns to Bristol Old Vic to play the title role. John Haider, who directed the Old Vic’s Richard III, is at the helm for this brand-new production, which explores the psychological currents behind this darkest and best-known of Elizabethan tragedies.
