The Ceremony (cert TBC) [gala screening + Q&A]

Join us for a prestigious gala screening of The Ceremony—a major cinematic event proudly hosted by Bradford 2025.

This award-winning debut feature by Bradford-born writer–director Jack King is a haunting, visually arresting road drama set against the raw beauty of Bradford and the Yorkshire Dales. Following its acclaimed world premiere at the 2024 Edinburgh International Film Festival—where it was honoured with the inaugural Sean Connery Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence—The Ceremony now returns home for an unforgettable evening.

The story begins with a stolen watch, a tragic death, and two migrant workers (played by Tudor Cucu-Dumitrescu and Erdal Yıldız) who make a fateful decision: to bury a young asylum-seeker (Mo’min Swaitat) in the hills. As they journey through the landscape with the man’s body, the pair are forced into a powerful reckoning—with grief, with each other, and with the land itself.

The special screening on 21 August will be followed by an exclusive Q&A with director Jack King, producer Hollie Bryan and members of the cast, offering rare insight into the making of a film that’s already making waves on the international stage.

Don’t miss this chance to experience The Ceremony in the city where it was born—and to celebrate the power of bold, local storytelling on a global platform.
