Met Opera Live: Der Fliegende Holländer (12A)

The doomed captain of a ghostly ship is offered a chance of redemption in this haunting Wagner opera.

In Der Fliegende Holländer, inspired by the legend of the Flying Dutchman, the Captain of a ghostly ship—condemned to sail the seas for eternity—is offered a chance of redemption by true love. Award-winning bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel CBE returns to the Met for the first time since 2012, starring as the mysterious seafarer searching for salvation.

Director François Girard, whose mesmerising production of Parsifal recently wowed Met audiences, returns to stage Wagner’s eerie early masterwork in a co-production with L’Opéra de Québec and Dutch National Opera, Amsterdam.
