An ode to drugs and diamonds starring veteran screen pair William Powell and Kay Francis as a gentleman thief and the posh lady who falls for him.
One of the rare Pre-Code films set in Europe, Jewel Robbery is the story of a Viennese lady (a mischievous Francis) caught in the midst of a diabolical jewel heist by a gentleman thief, played by the ever-charming William Powell. Casually wreathing its characters in marijuana smoke and unabashedly mentioning their extramarital affairs, this heist caper speeds to its joyfully sinful conclusion in a bite-size 68 minutes.
Pre-Code Hollywood: Rules Were Made to be Broken is a season of five restored films from before the Hays Production Code censored what could be seen on the big screen. These wild, dangerous and risqué films take audiences back to the heady cinematic world of the 1930s; when crime did pay, the bad guy got the girl in the end, and you really could get away with murder.
Tickets are discounted for titles in this season due to shorter run-times. Please be aware: these films contain adult themes and reflect the attitudes and behaviours of their time.
