A mean lord exiles fairy tale creatures to the swamp of a grumpy ogre, who must rescue a princess to get his land back.
When a green ogre named Shrek (Mike Myers) discovers his swamp has been filled with all sorts of fairytale creatures by the scheming Lord Farquaad, he sets out with a very talkative donkey (Eddie Murphy) by his side to ‘persuade’ Farquaad to give him his swamp back. Instead, a deal is made—Farquaad wants Shrek to rescue Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz), who is awaiting her true love in a tower guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. Once they get there, it quickly becomes apparent that not only is Shrek falling in love with the princess, but Fiona is hiding a huge secret.
Embracing and subverting fairy tale tropes and offering a funny, fast-paced ride with a strong moral message, Shrek is a children’s classic.
