Martin Eden (15)

A humble sailor struggles to rise above his social status, hoping to achieve a place among the literary elite and marry the woman he loves.

Martin Eden’s (Luca Marinelli) fate is changed forever when he defends a young boy from a beating on the docks and is invited into his bourgeois home. It is there that he meets Elena (Jessica Cressy), the daughter of an upper-crust industrial family, and resolves to become an accomplished writer to elevate himself to the family’s social standing and eventually marry her. But his pursuit of success is in conflict with his humble origins and the proletariat’s cause.

Adapted from the 1909 novel by Jack London, Martin Eden was described by The Guardian as a ‘thrilling tale’ with a ‘magnetic’ central performance from Marinelli.
