Northern Exposure (15)

Northern Exposure is a touring film programme showcasing the best short films from the North of England. 

This programme has been selected by a group of young, Northern film curators who have scoured the region to discover the stories that matter to them and the local filmmakers to get excited about. 

Expect a bold mix of fact and fiction, animation and live action—and anything else in-between.  

Northern Exposure is delivered by Film Hub North as part of BFI Film Academy. 

BFI Film Academy offers opportunities for ambitious 16-25 year olds, anywhere in the UK, to get to know more about film and how to forge a career in the screen industries. 

This event is supported by BFI Film Academy, awarding National Lottery funding.

Food For Thought

An animated short film about the intrinsic relationship between food and nostalgia. Following the stories of two individuals, this documentary presents their point of view on what food brings to their very own table of thoughts.

Early Spring

A strange creature comes to life following a girl through the streets of Manchester. While unveiling the mysteries of growing up, she struggles to navigate herself into the adult realm. From videos captured with a mobile phone camera merged with analogue processes, Early Spring takes the inner world to the surface of the cityscape, revealing a landscape as if it had always been there. 

Bird Man

Barry Roots ‘Bird Man’ feeds hundreds of birds every day around Bradford city centre, in the north of England. Loved by many, in this short film Barry reminisces about his journey to Bradford from Jamaica, how his record shop in the 70s was a hub of community life and why he visits the town centre to feed the birds come rain or shine.

Wave of Change

A Wave of Change is a student documentary film highlighting the importance of the Edwardian bath in Withington and how it's been a hub for the community's people.
