Siblings find themselves transported into a black-and-white 1950s sitcom in Gary Ross’s impressive directing debut.
High-schoolers David (Tobey Maguire) and his sister Jennifer (Reese Witherspoon) lead very different lives: Jennifer is shallow while David spends most of his time watching ‘Pleasantville’, a black-and-white 1950s sitcom about the idyllic Parker family.
One day, after receiving a new TV control, David and Jennifer are transported into the world of Pleasantville. Forced to act as the show's characters, David and Jennifer explore the wholesome but peculiar town. An enjoyable blend of 1950s and 1990s nostalgia, this light-hearted comedy is a story about free spirits, family values and American culture.
For this screening, the film will be shown on 35mm.
This screening is part of our Switched On monthly screenings.
