A heart-warming retelling of inspiring true events during the 1984 miners' strike, chosen by our volunteer programmers to celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month.
In the summer of 1984, Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is on strike. Pride tells the story of a group of London gay and lesbian activists who banded together to support the miners. Calling themselves Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM), they shook buckets on street corners to raise funds for the striking miners and their families.

Volunteer film programming
This screening is the third in a series of events by our young programmers, a group of local cinema lovers screening films they want Bradford to see. Our volunteers Lauren, Maverick, Haider, Patrick, Jenifer and Armaan wanted to choose a film to celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month. Out of many ideas generated by the group for this screening, Pride was chosen for its wholesome message of solidarity, as well as for its portrayal of a significant moment in British queer history.
