Tish (15)

A moving documentary portraying the Northern social documentary photographer and cultural trailblazer Tish Murtha.

This critically acclaimed documentary details the life and work of Newcastle-born Tish Murtha, a social photographer whose work documenting Elswick (dubbed ‘the worst square mile of England’) captured the impact of Thatcherism in the Northeast.

Despite early acclaim for her work, Murtha was unable to make a living from photography and died in poverty. This documentary offers the chance to elevate and preserve the legacy of an underrated icon of the 20th century.

"Tish is a tremendous, humane tribute to a real artist." – Peter Bradhsaw, The Guardian

Rebel Women is a series of documentaries shining a light on some of the trailblazing female figures who shaped art in the modern world.
