The Tragedy of Macbeth (15)

Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand star in Joel Coen’s bold and fierce adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic tale of murder, madness, ambition and wrathful cunning.

Power-hungry Lord Macbeth (Denzel Washington) becomes convinced by a trio of witches (Kathryn Hunter) that he will become the next King of Scotland, and his ambitious wife, Lady Macbeth (Frances McDormand), supports him in his plan to seize power.

Oscar winners Washington (Glory, Training Day) and McDormand (Nomadland, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) are joined by Laurence Olivier Award winner Bertie Carvel and BAFTA-nominated actor Brendan Gleeson, while the critically acclaimed Joel Coen writes and directs.

The Tragedy of Macbeth is ‘a visually stunning tour de force’ (Empire) and ‘easily one of the best films of the year’ (Evening Standard).
