Filmed in spectacular CinemaScope 55, this classic musical is a visually stunning treat.
Adapted from Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s 1951 Broadway musical hit and based on Margaret Landon’s book Anna and the King of Siam, this Oscar winner is a visually spectacular treat. Starring Yul Brynner as the King of Siam—a role that won him the Best Actor Academy Award—and the sensational Deborah Kerr as Anna Leonowens, it is a story of love, friendship and understanding.
One of only two features filmed in the then-new CinemaScope 55, the format really showcases the amazing colourful sets and Kerr’s impressive dresses (designed by the famous Irene Sharaff). A perfect film to escape with on a Saturday night.
This screening will include a 15-minute intermission.
This screening will be introduced by Toni Booth, Associate Curator of Film at the National Science and Media Museum.
