A group of women in an isolated Mennonite religious colony in Bolivia struggle to reconcile their faith with a series of assaults.
Between 2005 and 2009, 150 women and young girls were drugged and sexually assaulted by the men of their secluded Mennonite community in Bolivia. Following the uncovering of the perpetuators, the community’s men head to town to put up bail for their arrested brethren. In the short amount of time they have, the women meet in the barn and discuss their options, boiled down to three: do nothing, stay and fight, or leave the community.
This disturbing drama is based on the 2018 novel by Miriam Toews, which in turn was inspired by real-life events, and features a host of powerful performances from Frances McDormand, Ben Whishaw, Jessie Buckley and Claire Foy.
