Sound Day

In this day-long package, students will experience sound as they’ve never heard it before with a visit to Wonderlab, an explosive live show, plus the option to add amazing extra sessions and workshops.

WONDERLAB

Visit our most interactive gallery and get hands-on with science. In Wonderlab, students can investigate how light and sound work through an amazing range of fun, interactive exhibits. By experimenting, playing and exploring, they will learn about how light and sound are the building blocks of the technology we use every day.

Bring the Thunder SHOW

PRICE: Free
DURATION: 25 minutes
GROUP SIZE: Maximum 110

With this live science show, students will experience sound as they’ve never heard it before. Walk in the footsteps of a sound engineer as your group explores the beautiful world of soundwaves hidden in music. Can you set fire to sound? Speak like a Dalek? Create an indoor thunderstorm? This is your chance to find out!

Sound exhibitions

Don’t miss the opportunity for your group to explore our amazing new sound exhibitions.

In Sonic: Adventures in Audio, you can discover the world of sound with exciting new installations and interactive sound works. Have a go at managing the sound levels at a concert, get hands-on with synthesizers, and discover how noise cancelling headphones work.

In Boom: Experiments in Sound, students can listen, experiment and play as they follow the journey of a soundwave through the gallery. Walk through an insulated sound canal, experiment with tiptoeing or stomping, and hear the sound of your own footsteps in a forest.

Sound Creations Workshop

PRICE: £2 per person
DURATION: 25 minutes
GROUP SIZE: Maximum 40

Do you want your students to really get to grips with sound? This workshop is the perfect way to do it! Exploring the science of sound, its creation and manipulation, your group will discover:

  • How everyday objects can be used as musical instruments and sonic tools
  • How engineers and composers use the science of sound to make us feel a certain way
  • The history of Foley artistry, the role of sounds in film and the science of sound creation

IMAX 3D: Antarctica

PRICE: £5.50 per person
DURATION: 45 minutes
GROUP SIZE: Minimum 30; maximum 190

A spectacular 3D documentary in our IMAX cinema—the biggest screen in West Yorkshire—is an exciting and visually stunning treat for your students. Narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch, Antarctica uses never-before-seen footage and the latest underwater filming techniques to transport you to the planet’s most mysterious and wild continent.
