Looking for specialist information? Browse our research directory.
On this page you’ll find information about specialist organisations and useful contacts relating to photographic and cinematographic equipment.
The National Science and Media Museum cannot provide valuations, but below you can find some handy hints and resources which may be useful if you are looking to ascertain the value of an object.
Where to start
Consult a specialist shop or dealer. Take a look at our directory of shops and dealers (see above), or search for a dealer local to you online or in the telephone directory. They may be willing to provide an initial valuation, though some are reluctant to do so if you do not wish to sell your object through them.
Information from past auctions can be useful for price comparison purposes. Bonhams, Christie’s and Sotheby’s sometimes hold auctions that include historic photographic and film equipment. Online catalogues can be found at the websites listed below (you may need to pay to access them).
