BBC Music Day

As part of BBC Music Day 2018, we hosted an evening of music magic including special guest talks, a rare documentary screening, and a close look at the newest addition to our collection.

Our latest acquisition—the Midas XL3 40-channel mixing desk, serial number 003—was on public display for the first time as part of the BBC Music Day event.

This model was a turning point in the development of analogue mixing consoles for live music. Allowing live mix engineers to be faster and more flexible in their manipulation of sound, it established Midas as the leading live console manufacturer.

This specific XL3 has been used by a long list of legendary artists including Van Morrison, The Who, James Brown, Amy Winehouse, Happy Mondays, Patti Smith and The Prodigy.
