Faking It used a series of fabulous staged images to reveal the surprising crossovers between art and advertising photography.
Concentrating on images from the period between 1850 and 1950, Faking It looked at photographic artifice, a kind of picture-making that revels in fancy dress and fabrication. The exhibition demonstrated the visual parallels that occur between art photography and advertising, identifying themes, props, poses and styles common to both kinds of studio practice.
