GENUS

Environmental artists Dalziel + Scullion drew on the museum’s archives to create a large-scale video installation.

Matthew Dalziel and Louise Scullion have forged a unique artistic partnership since 1993, with their work encompassing film, photography, sculpture and sound. For GENUS, they drew on the museum’s collection to create a new installation. Seven video projectors showed a seemingly endless stream of images, each one capturing a unique moment of human activity.

Dalziel + Scullion have exhibited at institutions including the CCA Glasgow, Arnolfini Bristol, the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and the Fruitmarket Gallery in Edinburgh. Their permanent installations include The Horn (1997), commissioned for the midpoint of the M8 Motorway, and Modern Nature (2000), commissioned by the Tyrebagger Trust for Ellrick Hill, north of Aberdeen.
