Simone Nieweg: Landscapes and Gardens

Landscapes and Gardens was the first major UK show by German photographer Simone Nieweg, whose work focuses on suburban fields and allotments.

Nieweg lives and works in Düsseldorf where she formerly studied at the famous Kunstakademie as a student of Bernd and Hilla Becher. Devoid of human presence, Nieweg’s quietly beautiful colour photographs show the profound effects of human intervention on seemingly unremarkable landscapes on the outskirts of cities.
