In 2022 Widescreen Weekend celebrated the 70th anniversary of the process that started it all, Cinerama, with a programme of brand new restorations and multiple opportunities to experience the format in both digital and analogue.
Opening the festival was a brand-new restoration of a beloved classic—the UK premiere of the fully restored Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm for its 60th anniversary. And as the only currently operating public Cinerama venue in the world, we offered as many chances as possible to experience this ground-breaking and historically significant process.
In 2022 we also continued to celebrate women in widescreen cinema with our Rebels and Dames strand, and A Widescreen History of the World returned to explore the influence and impact of the Victorians and the Industrial Revolution. On top of our programme at Pictureville, we were thrilled to partner with local community cinemas and venues from across the Bradford area to programme Widescreen in the City screenings of some great films.
