It’s 50 years since humans first walked on the Moon. To celebrate, we have lots of activities, talks and shows to help you learn more about our incredible universe.

Drop-in activities

Hydrogen Powered Cars

Where: Foyer, Level 0

Get a close look at the Toyota Mirai, the first mass-produced hydrogen-fuelled car. Then join our activity to make your own mini car and power it up with hydrogen.

The Final Frontier

Where: Gallery One, Level 1

Help us create a diorama—a small three-dimensional model—with a space theme. You’ll learn the art of designing a diorama, and make miniature aliens to live inside it!

21st Century Lunar Explorers

Where: Makespace, Level 4

Use LEGO to create and explore a lunar landscape. You’ll make lunar landers and exploration rovers to display on the surface of the Moon.

Face painting

Where: Games Lounge, Level 5

Get your face painted with an out-of-this-world design inspired by space.

Hunting the Higgs!

When: 11.00 and 15.00 on Saturday 20 July; 11.00 and 14.00 on Sunday 21 July
Where: Wonderlab Studio, Level 3

A fast-paced, funny, highly interactive science show where the audience go through all the steps of the scientific method to discover the Higgs boson for themselves!

Dinosaurs Rediscovered 

When: 12.30 on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July
Where: Wonderlab Studio, Level 3

In this special talk, palaeontologist Michael J. Benton will explore the impact science has had on our understanding of dinosaurs. What colour were they? Why were they so huge? And can we ever bring them back?

The Alchemists

Centuries ago, scientists believed they could live forever and turn metals into gold. Join Ehsan Masood for this interactive talk and take a journey into the minds of the ancient alchemists.

Across the museum and beyond

  • Bouncing Astronauts Accompanied by their very own soundtrack, this incredible act will have everyone moonwalking! Look (and listen) out for the amazing bouncing astronauts around the festival.
  • Cyber Legion Meet members of this Doctor Who fan group, who’ll be appearing in costume as some of your favourite characters!
  • Element Trail Follow the trail around Bradford Science Festival and search for answers based on the periodic table.
