The ‘Give a Show’ projector: Stories illuminating science

Join us on Zoom for an interactive online presentation about home entertainment and the science of light, based on a projector from our collection.

Many toys hide surprising lessons in science in their design; they can fire imagination and entertain at the same time. And Christmas is a time for children to look forward to gifts, and adults to look back with affection on the toys they received in the past!

In this online event we will look at the Give a Show projector—a toy our presenter remembers so fondly he bought a replacement 50 years later! We’ll explore developments in home entertainment over the past 50 years, give insights into optics, and suggest some simple experiments you can try at home to explore the science of light.

Whether you’re at school and want to know more about what we looked at before YouTube and TikTok, or a little bit older and would like to revisit toys from your past, join us online for this special Christmas event!
